Watermelon Slush Basics
Watermelon slush is a refreshing, icy drink perfect for hot summer days.
It’s incredibly easy to make with just a few simple ingredients.
• Fresh watermelon
• Ice
• Lime juice
• Sweetener (optional)
To make this frosty treat, blend frozen watermelon chunks with a splash of lime juice until slushy.
Then, add a touch of honey or sugar if desired for extra sweetness.
Selecting the Best Watermelon
Choosing a ripe, juicy watermelon is key to a delicious slush.
Look for a watermelon that feels heavy for its size and has a yellow spot on the bottom where it sat on the ground.
Give it a tap – a ripe melon will have a hollow sound.
For convenience, opt for a seedless watermelon.
The deep red flesh indicates sweetness and flavor, while melons with soft spots or bruises should be avoided.
When you’re ready to make your slush, a medium-sized watermelon is usually enough for 4-6 servings.
Preparing the Watermelon
Start by washing the outside of your watermelon.
Cut it in half, then into wedges.
Remove the rind and chop the pink flesh into 1-inch cubes.
Spread the cubes on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer.
Pop them in the freezer for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a freezer bag for storage.
When you’re ready to make your slush, let the frozen watermelon thaw for 5-10 minutes.
This will make it easier to blend and create that perfect slushy texture you’re after.
